“Feast or Famine” Summer Theological Institute for Youth at Monmouth College

Monmouth College is pleased to invite high school students to apply for its Lux Summer Theological Institute for Youth to be held from July 16-30, 2017 on the theme: “Feast or Famine: Thinking Theologically about Food and Food Security.” The Lux Summer Theological Institute is a two-week summer ecumenical experience for high school students (rising sophomores through graduated seniors) held on the Monmouth College campus. It is designed to nurture and equip students to become servant leaders who are spiritually enlightened, globally engaged, socially responsible, and vocationally driven.

Part of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s High School Youth Theology Institutes initiative, the Institute seeks to encourage young people to explore theological traditions, ask questions about the moral dimensions of contemporary issues and examine how their faith calls them to lives of service. The Institute’s daily schedule is framed around morning and evening worship; intellectually challenging classes in which students are immersed in the study of scripture and Christian theology; opportunities to learn from people of different religious traditions; service in the community; field trips to local points of interest; and recreational events. All expenses for the two week Institute are generously covered by the Lilly Endowment grant, with the exception of travel to Chicago.
