The untimely death of the Rev. Wendy Bailey, our General Presbyter, has taken us all by surprise. Even as we grieve, we are determined that the mission of the Presbytery will continue without interruption. I am writing now to let members of the Presbytery – teaching elders and congregations – know about transitional plans that are now beginning to take shape.
This is, of course, not the sort of situation anyone has planned for. The Presbytery staff met yesterday to put together immediate contingency plans. On Thursday, January 12, our Synod Leader, the Rev. Harold Delhagen, will be meeting with the Presbytery staff in the afternoon and with the Presbytery Mission Council in the evening to help us chart a path forward.
Until such time as we may have a person filling the General Presbyter role in an interim capacity, both our Media/Office Manager Marie Luthringer and I are available to respond to inquiries on behalf of the Presbytery. Please feel to direct your questions and requests to either of us, as you think appropriate.
Vouchers related to budgeted expenditures by Presbytery committees and work groups may be sent to our Moderator, the Rev. Gary Filson, who will sign them and submit them to our Accountant, Howard Dunbar, for payment.
We will have more details to announce in the weeks to come, I’m sure. In the meantime, let us pray for the Lord’s guidance, as together we seek to discern our future direction.
